EUROPEAN ANGLER'S ALLIANCE (EAA) GENERAL ASSEMBLY ELECTS PETER MOHNERT AS NEW PRESIDENT

On 7th October 2006, the European Anglers Alliance (EAA) general meeting took place in Leipzig, Germany.

The conference dealt with important changes to the guidelines and statute of the organisation as well as decisions concerning the finances and the structure. One of the biggest changes to take place is that the EAA will no longer be structured into simple EU regions (Northern Europe, Southern Europe, Western Europe, Central Europe), but – following the demands of the European water - frame directive – is now set up in specific subgroups i.e. "River system and Sea".

Corresponding international teams shall be established.

The work of the EAA actually becomes more effective with this change in the sense that the EAA corresponds to the interests of that of member-nations as opposed to the previous arrangement.

The organization of the Polish anglers (PZW), the Austrian Verband der Österreichereichischen Arbeiter Fischerei Vereine (VÖAFV) also as the German Deutscher Angler Verband e.V. (DAV) will belong no longer be inclusive to the EAA as of 2007.

With the re-election of the board, the president of the Verband Deutscher Sportfischer e.V. Peter Mohnert was elected unanimously as new president of the EAA.

Borut Jerse from Slovenia, Dik Enklaar from the Netherlands and John
Crudden from Ireland were unanimously elected to members of the board.

The term of office of the new board will now be three years.

Janet Doyle of EFTTA attended the EAA's General Assembly and comments: "EFTTA is pleased to hear the EAA's new structural plans and look forward to continuing our joint partnership on the lobbying and RACs projects."
