Dear EFTTA friend & angling lover,

We are all aware that recreational angling is Europe-wide under threats, with potential restrictions coming from various sides, whether ecological or political. If we do not react on these threats, recreational angling as we know it, might completely vanish.

Among all the regulations and laws that are constantly elaborated by the European Union, some have the potential to heavily affect the future of recreational angling. Since it is extremely difficult to amend an EU law once it has been adopted, it is crucial that harmful proposals are identified and addresses as early as possible before they become effective.

That is what EFTTA does for you.

As a recognized international non-profit association EFTTA has better access to the European decision-makers than individual persons or companies.

EFTTA is able to act on behalf of the entire Recreational Angling Industry.

With registered HQ in Brussels within walking distance of the European Institutions, we are in constant contact with the EU Commission, the EU Council & the EU Parliament, monitoring legislative activities within the EU Commission, meeting with MEPs, assuring that all relevant information about our industry and the angling community is brought to the decision makers. This task is very time- and resource demanding.

Lobbying & promotion are crucial to preserve recreational angling for the future.

All top players in the tackle trade industry have understood the importance of EFTTA's lobby work. All of them are on the EFTTA Board:

DAIWA, PURE FISHING, RAPALA VMC, RATHER OUTDOORS, SHIMANO.

But that is not enough.

The annual membership fees are the main source of income for EFTTA. To finance our lobby work we need the support of the entire Recreational Angling Industry. No matter how big or small your company is.

The industry must stand together. Only then can we be strong enough to successfully defend the interests of the tackle trade.

Supporting EFTTA is more important than ever.

That's why the EFTTA Board appeals urgently to all companies that are involved in or related to the recreational angling industry to stop profiting as a 'free-rider' from our commitment to promote and safeguard the future of recreational angling.

CONGRATULATIONS TO EFTTEX 2023!

New EFTTA President

After a 3-years break, EFTTEX has been re-launched in Budapest from 15 to 17 June 2023. EFTTA congratulates the new style and concept of EFTTEX 2023, also expressing a big thank to the three leading organizers who have done a tremendous job to realize a successful come back: Istvan Pal, Ciro Esposito, Rudi Heger. All three are member of the EFTTA board.

EFTTA & EFTTEX go separate ways

To fully concentrate on the challenging lobby work, the EFTTA Board has decided that EFTTA is no longer involved in the organization and execution of the EFTTEX show, being outsourced to an independent company.

EFTTA Position on Lead Ban

Instead of use ban EFTTA pleads for sales ban, import control and consumer information

Previously EFTTA has argued in favour of a use ban. During the working process we have changed our opinion and now agree that a use ban is not required. A sales ban, import control and consumer information should be enough to achieve the intended goals within a reasonable timeframe.

The contribution of recreational fisheries

Conference on biodiversity protection and restoration, EU Parliament Brussels

On 30 November 2022, a European Parliament Forum on Recreational Fisheries and Aquatic Environment event co-Chaired by MEP Niclas Herbst and MEP Soraya Rodriguez Ramos brought light on the diverse initiatives carried out by the Recreational Fisheries sector, considering the upcoming discussions on the Nature Restoration Law (NRL).

Ladies, Let's Go Fishing!

Women now account for 37 percent of anglers in the U.S.

This is the highest level on record according to the Special Report on Fishing announced by the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation (RBFF) in collaboration with the Outdoor Foundation. 19.4 million women went fishing in 2021, an 8% increase in fishing outings since 2019.
