With nearly 25 years of professional experience, Joana Patricio is a Fisheries Control expert at DG Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE), European Commission. She is actively involved in the development of an EU-wide electronic catch reporting system for recreational fisheries and oversees control activities in the Black and Levant Seas. Joana works closely with national control authorities, NGOs, the scientific community, and key stakeholders to ensure sustainable fisheries. After 16 years as a researcher in Marine and Coastal Ecology, she served as a project adviser at EASME, managing scientific studies to support the Common Fisheries Policy, before joining DG MARE, where she has worked for the past 6.5 years.
