Scandinavian Tackle Trade Associations join EFTTA!

EFTTA is excited to announce two new partnerships with tackle trade associations in Scandinavia:

  • DANSK LYSTFISKERI (Denmark)
  • SVENSK SPORTFISKEHANDEL (Sweden)

With growing challenges like regulatory restrictions, threats to aquatic ecosystems or fish predation, EFTTA is committed to unifying Europe’s recreational angling industry through collaboration, shared knowledge, and coordinated advocacy.

In addition to our collaboration with the English ATA and the French GIFAP, we’re thrilled to now extend our partnerships to tackle trade associations in Northern Europe, a region with a deep-rooted angling tradition.

DANSK LYSTFISKERI

Dansk Lystfiskeri is a trade association for angling-related businesses in Denmark, from tackle manufacturers and wholesalers to tackle shops, fishing guides, and tour operators.

Founded in 2022, Dansk Lystfiskeri's purpose is to safeguard the commercial interests of member companies, aiming - among others - to be the industry's voice, promote Danish recreational fish stock and the diversity of Danish angling, recruit and retain anglers, foster industry knowledge and growth.

The Dansk Lystfiskeri board unanimously agreed that EFTTA's strategy aligns perfectly with the Danish objectives. In addition to joining EFTTA, they confirmed their commitment to future cooperation by agreeing to actively participate in the EFTTA Angling Summit on 28 November in Berlin.

Accordingly, EFTTA is thrilled that Peter Lyngby, Chairman of Dansk Lystfiskeri, accepted to hold a keynote speech at the EFTTA ANGLING SUMMIT on the rollout of the new EU directive on Extended Producer Responsibility for plastic in fishing tackle in Denmark.

Peter Lyngby / Chairman Dansk Lystfiskeri: "I am confident that our collaboration with EFTTA will be highly beneficial for Dansk Lystfiskeri. We are currently preparing a summary of the EU directive’s scope and implications to support our Dansk Lystfiskeri members in implementing the EPR schemes, a completely new area for all of us. While the Danish Ministry of the Environment has provided limited support, EFTTA has helped us gain a clearer understanding of EU processes".

SVENSK SPORTFISKEHANDEL

Svensk Sportfiskehandel is a collaboration of distributors in the Swedish angling industry. The primary goal is to foster a healthy market and share information about angling with decision-makers and potential new anglers.

Founded in 2000 as part of SPOFA, Spofa Spöfiske became an independent association in 2006, representing manufacturers, wholesalers, and importers with strong positions in the Swedish market. Renamed Svensk Sportfiskehandel in 2015, its mission is to grow the market, boost industry profitability, and attract more anglers.

Guided by the credo FISH FIRST, Svensk Sportfiskehandel advocates for sustainable fisheries, recognizing that without fish, there’s no fishing or industry demand. Members benefit – among others – from lobbying efforts, industry information and statistics, participation in industry talks, and a role in shaping standards and environmental policies.

In this context, the association has successfully achieved a ban on driftnet fishing for salmon in the Baltic Sea and secured increased funding for fisheries management in Sweden. Current priorities include establishing marine protected areas (MPAs), implementing net fishing restrictions, banning bottom trawling, and limiting hydropower expansion.

Gerard Bakkenes / EFTTA Board: "We sincerely appreciate the collaboration with the Danish and Swedish trade associations. Their focus on industry growth and sustainability aligns perfectly with our goals, and together, we can make meaningful progress. Thank you for your dedication and partnership — we’re looking forward to working successful together! ".
