Global sports giant backs sustainable angling and industry advocady in Europe

EFTTA is delighted to welcome Decathlon as its newest member! As a global leader in sporting goods — active as both a manufacturer and retailer — Decathlon brings valuable experience, broad market reach, and a strong commitment to sustainability.

Guided by its purpose to “move people through the wonder of sport” and its fishing brand Caperlan, Decathlon actively promotes sport fishing as a responsible outdoor activity that supports both physical and mental wellbeing. This vision aligns perfectly with EFTTA’s mission to strengthen and promote recreational angling at the European level — especially in the context of environmental policy and sustainable development.

With more than 1,800 stores and over 100,000 teammates worldwide, Decathlon’s presence across Europe will help reinforce EFTTA’s advocacy work and offer new perspectives on market trends, accessibility, and ethical practices in the fishing tackle sector.

Gerard Bakkenes, EFTTA Board, commented:
"We are very pleased to welcome Decathlon to EFTTA. As both a manufacturer and retailer with its own dedicated fishing brand, Decathlon brings valuable perspectives to our association. Their commitment to responsible recreational angling, sustainability, and accessibility perfectly mirrors our values. Decathlon’s engagement will strengthen our voice in Brussels and beyond, and we are confident this collaboration will open new avenues to promote and protect recreational angling throughout Europe."

EFTTA looks forward to a fruitful collaboration with Decathlon as we work together to ensure a vibrant, sustainable future for recreational fishing in Europe.
