EU Fishing App

EFTTA & EAA involved in segment development

As mentioned in previous news the Revised EU Fisheries Control Regulation will introduce an app that must be used for catch reporting of recreational fisheries.

We are very pleased that the Commission has agreed with EFTTA & EAA that a clear segmentation of recreational fishing gears and modes should be part of the app/electronic reporting system under development to be launched in January 2026.

The Commission has prepared a draft with proposed recreational fishing segments. The draft has been forwarded to EU Member States for comments. EFTTA & EAA have also been invited to comment. The final version to be programmed into the fishing app will follow in due time.

This is very good news! It is a significant achievement for EFTTA & EAA to be involved in the discussion and development of this electronic reporting system. The introduction of clear segments offers a great opportunity to finally collect more and better data, which will be of great value to the recreational angling industry and individual anglers, as well as to researchers, policy makers and decision-makers!
