EPR for fishing tackle is mandatory under EU law, but its implementation differs significantly from country to country. This is often a complex and sometimes confusing topic for the trade. That’s why EFTTA is using this opportunity to ask a few simple and practical questions about how EPR currently works in your country.
This initiative is supported by the Anglers National Line Recycling Scheme (ANLRS), which shared a keynote at the EFTTA Angling Summit in Berlin, presenting practical experience with fishing line collection and recycling in the UK.
The EFTTA survey focuses on current EPR implementation, collection practices, and views on potential fishing line recycling schemes. Your input will help us build a clearer picture of the situation on the ground and strengthen our advocacy work at EU level.
And don’t worry – you don’t need to be an EPR expert to reply. Practical experience and best estimates are absolutely fine and valuable.
Survey responses are collected via Mailchimp. Email addresses, if provided, will only be used for follow-up in relation to this survey.

Letter & Invitation by ANLRS
Dear EFTTA Member & Fellow Angler,
We are writing on behalf of the Anglers National Line Recycling Scheme (ANLRS) and hope you have had a healthy and positive start to 2026.
At the recent EFTTA Angling Summit in Berlin, it was our privilege to present the UK Fishing Line Recycling Scheme – how it works in practice – and to explore whether there may be an opportunity to establish a similar approach in other countries as well. We found the Summit extremely interesting and informative, and it was a real pleasure to meet and exchange views with fellow anglers and industry representatives from across Europe.
In the UK, we have seen a very positive response from the wider public. The scheme has helped create a clear understanding of what line recycling involves and how it contributes to putting angling in a more positive light.
We are aware that Europe is generally ahead of the UK when it comes to Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), and that many countries already operate government-led schemes. That said, we believe it is still worth asking whether line recycling could also play a role within the European tackle trade and angling community itself.
To help us better understand the current situation, we would greatly appreciate your input on how line and tackle recycling works in your country. In particular, we are keen to understand the cost structures involved and the final destination of EPR-recovered fishing tackle, line and spools.
For ease, we have created a simple list of questions. We would be very grateful if you could share your best estimates or available information.Thank you in advance for your time and support. We look forward to sharing the results with you soon. Kind regards,
Viv Shears & Steve Tapp
